Aptive Settles With Delaware AG for $600,000 Over Door-to-Door Sales

On 29 July 2026, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings obtained a settlement with Aptive Environmental, LLC — $600,000 to the state plus mandated changes to how it sells at the door. The filing went to the Delaware Court of Chancery under state consumer protection law, over alleged high-pressure tactics and misrepresentation.

We have removed Aptive from our rated lineup as a result. This piece explains why, and what it means if you already have a contract.

What the settlement covers

The state's allegations concerned door-to-door sales conduct: pressure tactics and misrepresentation in the pitch, rather than the quality of the treatment itself. Aptive pays $600,000 and accepts mandated changes to its door-to-door practices.

Two things worth being precise about. A settlement is not a court finding of fraud, and Aptive has not been found liable at trial. But a state attorney general obtaining a six-figure consumer-protection settlement is a fact about the company's sales practices that a homeowner deciding whether to sign should know.

Why we dropped it

Two independent reasons, and either alone would have been enough.

The sales record. Our methodology caps a brand's Customer Reputation sub-score when a state enforcement action about consumer conduct lands inside 24 months. Aptive also carries 1,735 BBB complaints closed in three years, alongside ongoing TCPA class actions where a court refused to compel arbitration.

No way to recommend it honestly. Aptive runs no publisher affiliate programme on any network — only a customer refer-a-friend link. So the page had no revenue mechanism either. When a brand is both editorially difficult and commercially pointless, keeping it in a top-ten list is just noise.

If you are already an Aptive customer

The company is trading normally, so this is not a wind-down and your service should continue. The thing to check is your exit terms.

Aptive's published cancellation fee is $199 on 12–24 month agreements, and complaints cite figures up to $285. That fee is the single most complained-about term in this industry, and it is why we list every brand's cancellation cost in the comparison table rather than burying it.

Read your agreement for the termination clause before you call. Our guide on how to cancel pest control walks the steps, and keeps Aptive's fee in its table precisely because that information is still useful to anyone holding a contract.

One correction while we are here

Aptive's domain moved. goaptive.com now redirects to aptivepestcontrol.com, and aptive.com does not resolve at all — it is not an Aptive property. If you are searching for your account, use the current domain.

What we would look at instead

For a full-service national brand with a published guarantee, see Terminix or Orkin. For prevention you can run yourself at a fraction of the cost, Pestie and DoMyOwn are the two we rate highest on value.

The full ranked table is at /compare.
