Privacy Policy

Updated July 2026

Effective date: July 30, 2026. Last updated: July 30, 2026.

This policy explains what pestwatchdog.com ("PestWatchDog," "we") collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Short version: we collect little, we don't sell your email, and the main tracking on this site exists to run analytics and credit affiliate referrals.

1. What we collect

  • Newsletter data (you give it to us): your email address, and optionally your ZIP code if you choose to provide it. Email is used to send the WatchDog Report (double opt-in — we only add you after you confirm); ZIP is used solely to regionalize seasonal pest timing in your emails.
  • Contact data (you give it to us): whatever you include when you email us (corrections, tips, requests). We keep correspondence as needed to handle it.
  • Analytics data (collected automatically): pages viewed, approximate location (city/region derived from IP), device and browser type, referral source, and on-site interactions (e.g., which comparison filters are used). Collected via Google Analytics 4 with IP handling per Google's current practices.
  • Affiliate click data (collected when you click certain links): when you click a /go/ or other affiliate link, a click identifier is generated and passed to the relevant affiliate network so a later purchase can be credited to us. This typically involves cookies or similar identifiers set by the network. We see aggregate reporting (clicks, conversions, commissions), not your payment details.
  • What we don't collect: no accounts, no passwords, no payment information (we never process payments), no precise geolocation, no sensitive personal information.

2. Cookies and similar technologies

You can control cookies through our consent banner and your browser settings. Blocking affiliate cookies doesn't change your prices; it only affects whether we're credited.

3. Who we share data with

  • Google (Analytics): analytics data described above, processed under Google's terms.
  • Affiliate networks (currently CJ Affiliate, Awin including ShareASale, and Impact; the list may change): click identifiers and conversion data needed to operate referral tracking.
  • Email service provider ([ESP PLACEHOLDER]): stores newsletter emails and optional ZIPs, sends our emails, processes unsubscribes.
  • Service providers: hosting, security, and error-logging vendors, bound to use data only to provide their services.
  • Legal: we disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights, and data may transfer as part of a business transaction (with notice via this page).

We do not sell your email address or newsletter data. Affiliate and analytics cookies may qualify as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law, so we treat them under the opt-out mechanism below.

4. Your California rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you're a California resident, you have the right to: know/access the personal information we hold about you; delete it; correct it; opt out of sale or sharing of personal information; limit use of sensitive personal information (we don't collect any); and non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: use the "Do Not Sell or Share" link in our footer, which opens the consent manager and disables affiliate/analytics cookies that could constitute sharing. You can also email privacy@pestwatchdog.com with the subject "CCPA request." We verify requests by confirming control of the email address involved, respond within 45 days, and never charge for requests. Authorized agents may submit requests with proof of authorization.

Categories collected (CCPA terms): identifiers (email, IP, click IDs), internet activity (pages, interactions), approximate geolocation (city-level, and ZIP if you provide it). Sources: you, and automatic collection. Purposes: as described in Section 1. Retention: Section 6.

Residents of other states with privacy laws (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and others) have similar rights; use the same contact and we'll honor them.

5. Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, restrict access to subscriber data to those who need it, and vet our vendors. No internet service can promise perfect security; if a breach affects your data, we'll notify you as required by law.

6. Retention

Newsletter data: kept while you're subscribed, deleted within 90 days of unsubscribing (suppression-list entries kept as required to honor your opt-out). Correspondence: up to 24 months after resolution. Analytics: GA4 retention set to 14 months. Affiliate click data: per network policy, typically 30–90 days for attribution plus aggregate reporting.

7. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child provided us data, contact privacy@pestwatchdog.com and we'll delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when practices change, update the date above, and flag material changes prominently (and by email to subscribers if the change affects newsletter data).
