About PestWatchDog

Updated July 2026

Why we exist

Go look up the two biggest pest control companies in America. Both hold BBB A+ corporate grades. Both sit at 1.3–1.4 stars on Trustpilot, with BBB customer reviews near one star. Same companies, same month. That gap — between the grade on the letterhead and the experience on your credit card statement — is the pest control trust problem, and almost nobody covering this industry shows you both numbers.

It matters because 73% of homeowners check online reviews before hiring, and what they find is a mess: corporate grades that measure paperwork, review counts juiced by happy-day surveys, and "best of" lists ordered by commission. Meanwhile the real decisions — is a $199 exit fee hiding behind that porch pitch? is $326 a fair initial visit? — go unanswered. PestWatchDog was built to answer them the way a friend who used to work in pest control would: plainly, with the numbers on the table.

What we do differently

Dual scores. Every review shows the corporate reputation (BBB grade, accreditation, complaint handling) and the customer reputation (Trustpilot, ConsumerAffairs, BBB customer stars). When they disagree — and for the big nationals they violently disagree — we tell you which number matters for your decision. The full system: /methodology.

Cancellation transparency. We treat the exit fee as a headline fact, not a footnote. Every brand's cancellation terms sit in our comparison table (/compare), and our cancellation guide (/guides/how-to-cancel-pest-control) includes the scripts that get fees waived. No other factor in this industry is hidden as deliberately.

Real cost data. Our price tables and calculator are built from published rates, national cost benchmarks, and mystery-shop quotes — not vendor press kits. Every figure is dated ("as of July 2026") and re-checked quarterly. Start here: /guides/pest-control-cost.

No pay-to-play rankings. We rank Aptive #3 and still put its $199 early-exit fee in the second sentence. We gave Hawx — a brand this industry's lead-gen sites happily promote — a 2.9, the lowest score on our list, and said why. If our rankings were for sale, those pages would read very differently.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions, disclosed everywhere they occur. Links marked with our /go/ pattern may pay us when you buy or book. Three things keep that honest: commissions never touch scores (writers don't see payout data), brands with no affiliate program are ranked right alongside brands that pay us, and higher-paying brands sit below lower-paying ones wherever the evidence puts them. The full plain-English version: /legal/affiliate-disclosure.

Editorial independence

No company can pay for placement, preview a review, or edit a score. Advertisers and affiliate partners get the same treatment as everyone else: their published terms, their complaint records, their real prices. When a brand disputes a fact, we re-verify against primary sources and correct if we were wrong — publicly. Our sourcing, fact-check, and corrections standards live at /legal/editorial-policy, and the people accountable for them at /team.

Update cadence

Pest control pricing and reputation data move constantly, so every page carries an "as of" date. Scores and prices are re-reviewed quarterly; cancellation terms and guarantees are re-verified at every update; anything we can't verify is labeled an estimate. If you spot something stale, tell us — we fix fast.
